2015-2022
Wassail was conceived in 2013 in response to stinging cuts to public investment in the arts in Somerset between 2011-2013. Cross and powerless, two Somerset lads who'd never worked together decided the best thing to do was to start working together.
Jesse Briton and Nick White brought their extensive local, regional, national & international experience of professional performance & participatory theatre together. Somerset lass Rose Swift joined Wassail in 2020, bringing loads of experience of making art in rural communities, not only in Somerset but from trailblazing Dorset too.
Between 2015-2022, Wassail reached over 30,000 audiences in Somerset, the south west of England, the south east of England, the Midlands, Europe, Africa, North America, the Middle East, Australia and New Zealand. During this time over 100 theatre professionals created over 25 projects inspired in some way by the people, places and peculiarities of Somerset.
We've put some of the pictures of them here.
In 2022 Jesse, Nick and Rose decided to let Wassail have a snooze for 18 months or so, to recharge and refocus itself.
What happens when it wakes up again? That's the next bit.
